Now is the time to get organised and give your small business a boost for the year ahead. One way to do this is by attending local networking events. Not only are they great for meeting new people and learning new things, you may even find yourself some new clients!
I have already recommended my favourite 7 Networking Events & Clubs to Join in Edinburgh, and in today’s blog post I’ve got even more suggestions for you! If you’re looking for some great Edinburgh networking events for small businesses, try popping along to one of these events in 2019:
NewbyCore Breakfast Club
When: first Tuesday of the month, 8.30-10.30am
Where: Brewhemia, Edinburgh
Who: all types of local small businesses
Access: open to all, £15 entry
NewbyCore is a business consultancy based in the city, and they run one of Edinburgh’s top networking events for small businesses.
Each event includes a talk from an interesting speaker, plus plenty of time for informal and relaxed networking over coffee and breakfast – and even perks like manicures, mini massages and beard trims! The aim of the event is to make networking fun, so this is a great one to attend if you feel a bit apprehensive about the idea of formal networking.
The NewbyCore Edinburgh networking event is best for small businesses who are creative and friendly and are looking to make some great connections with like-minded business owners.
When: last Tuesday of the month, 8.00-9.30am
Where: Hotel Indigo Princes Street, Edinburgh
Who: all types & sizes of local businesses
Access: everyone welcome, free tickets booked in advance via Eventbrite
Another great Edinburgh networking event for small businesses is the E2N Networking series, which takes place on the last Tuesday of every month. Run by Tara Macgregor of Ticketyboo Marketing and Brendan Walsh of the Hawthorn Business Group, this event is useful for all small businesses – particularly those focused on marketing, sales and business consultancy.
At each event, there is an E2N Monthly Talk, where an inspiring business person will share their story and their tips on growing your small businesses. In addition to the talk, there will also be time to chat to all the other attendees with a cup of tea or coffee.
This Edinburgh networking event for small businesses is completely free to attend. Just keep an eye out on Eventbrite for details of upcoming E2N Networking events, and book your free ticket.
When: first Friday of the month, 12.30-2.00pm
Where: Kasturi Restaurant, Edinburgh
Who: all types and sizes of local businesses
Access: open to all, pay for your own meal
If you’re a bit of a foodie, what could be better than networking at the same time as enjoying a delicious lunch? Curry Connections is a fantastic Edinburgh networking event for small businesses, run by networking and business expert Colin McKeand.
Everyone is welcome to attend and there’s no membership fee – just pay for your own lunch on the day. These events are very popular and spaces are limited, so book your free ticket on Eventbrite as early as possible.
This is a great opportunity to meet small business owners (as well as people from larger companies) from a range of different backgrounds. As well as helping you meet new people, Curry Connections also aims to help you develop lasting, profitable and productive relationships with other small business in the Edinburgh area.
Ladies, Wine & Design Edinburgh
When: monthly, dates and times vary
Where: Hill Street Design House, Edinburgh
Who: female creatives
Access: open to all but spaces limited to 10, first come first served
The concept of Ladies, Wine & Design Edinburgh is simple. Ten ladies get together each month, enjoy a couple of glasses of wine and talk about business, life, creativity and everything in between. If you aren’t into traditional, formal networking events, this could be the perfect Edinburgh networking event for your small business.
The group is very open-minded and inclusive, and all you have to do to join is send them an email. Be aware that spaces are limited to ten and are given on a first come first served basis, so be quick if you fancy going!
Each event is led by organiser Fee Sheal and a guest creative. Some events are just straightforward talks, where the guest speaker will share their own experiences to kick off the chat. Others are more like practical workshops, where you can have a go at everything from bookbinding to sign painting.
When: first Wednesday of the month, 10am
Where: Finn & Bear, Edinburgh
Who: female entrepreneurs, founders and small business owners
Access: everyone welcome, tickets £13.69
Another of my favourite Edinburgh networking events for small businesses is Simply Connect. It’s aimed at female small business owners who want to make meaningful connections in a relaxed, non-salesly atmosphere.
Each event is hosted by founder and business coach Niki Hutchison and also welcomes a guest speaker to share their expertise, business stories and growth tips.
Simply Connect is open to all businesswomen in Edinburgh, with a particular focus on creative businesses, marketers and digital small businesses. You’re sure to find plenty of like-minded attendees to share stories with, answer business questions and create a supportive network.
Love Your Business
When: last Thursday of the month, 10am
Where: Black Ivy, Edinburgh
Who: all types and sizes of businesses
Access: everyone welcome, tickets £21.55
If you are looking for a great Edinburgh networking event for small businesses, Love Your Business is a good one to try. Run by Michelle Brown of Michelle Brown PR, she shares her knowledge of business, PR and marketing at the monthly meetings.
There are also inspirational guest speakers, workshops and plenty of opportunities for networking with other small business owners at the Love Your Business meetings.
In addition to the main networking events, there are also regular “Skills Lab” events. These will help you learn specific skills, such as how to use LinkedIn for your business or how to create video content to promote your small business.
